Rep. Vargas Applauds Grants Awarded to Organizations in San Diego and Imperial Counties
San Diego, CA (November 26, 2014) – Today, Rep. Juan Vargas applauds federal grant funding awarded to Family Health Centers of San Diego and San Ysidro Health Center in San Diego County, and Campesinos Unidos, INC. in Imperial County.
“I am very pleased that these three exemplary organizations in my district will be given this much-needed grant funding. The assistance they provide to our communities is invaluable to the people who rely on their services,” said Vargas. “This funding both recognizes the positive impact of these organizations and also enables them to continue their good work. I have supported their efforts in the past and look forward to seeing them continue serving the people of California’s 51st Congressional District.”
Family Health Centers of San Diego, which delivers health care services throughout San Diego County, will receive $5,433,431.00. The San Ysidro Health Center, which has provided health services to underserved families for many years, will receive $3,126,823.00. Campesinos Unidos, INC., a Head Start that brings pre-school programs to children in many Imperial County locations, will receive $2,995,100.00.
Vargas represents California’s 51st Congressional District which includes the southern portion of San Diego County, all of Imperial County and California’s entire US/Mexico border. Vargas is currently serving his first term in Congress. He represented the 40th California State Senate District from 2010-2012, the 79th California State Assembly District from 2000 – 2006 and served on the San Diego City Council from 1993 – 2000.
